Description

Oolong tea from Taiwan. Formosa, meaning 'beautiful' was what the Dutch explorers called this island. The oolong teas grown here continue to be called as such. The least processed of these are termed pouchong. Our 'Opus Pouchong' is a lightly oxidized tea with large, wavy, dark-green leaves. It is arguably the most delicate tea produced in Taiwan, a country known for its share of delicate teas. It yields a light cup with delicate fragrance and a gentle, precociously sweet taste. An underrated tea we urge you not to overlook.

Story

Formosa, meaning "beautiful island" is what the Dutch traders called Taiwan. The teas grown here, mainly north of Taipei, continue to be called as such. Taiwan's unique soil and climate contrive to produce a perfect oolong. Its growing and manufacturing processes had often been copied, but a tea of equal splendor is not produced anywhere else in the world. Interestingly enough, its black and green teas are not equally great. But Taiwan oolongs are the finest in the world.

"First steep: 180 F/4:45. Very grassy and floral; not in a 'bright' way, more mossy than anything. Liquor brews up to a light amber color. Second steep: 185 F/7:15. Gets more vegetal and has a thicker body. Mouth-coating feeling akin to jasmine green tea. Liquor is almost exactly the color of clover honey. I enjoyed this greatly and will be reordering."
