The Scoville scale is used to determine the heat of chili peppers. Named for Wilbur Scoville, the scientist who developed it, it is measured in Scoville Heat Units or SHUs, which directly relates to how many capsaicinoids are present in the chili. The higher the number, the higher the heat. For example, bell and banana peppers rank low, at under 1,000 SHUs. The Carolina Reaper on the other hand, has 1.5 million SHUs. That's one hot pepper! We like to keep things a little cooler with our tea, but don't worry, it still packs a spicy punch.
