Kei's story is complicated in canon, as it deals with issues of gender identity, medical practices of the 70's, and now how it all relates to a modern reader. While back in the day his story may have put being trans* in a flippant and negative light, I like to think we can take it and make it positive as we learn from the mistakes of the past.
