Yunnan Jig

Description

Black tea from the Yunnan region of China. Yunnan tea is easily identified by its luscious soft leaves, and a unique peppery taste. It is a very forgiving tea; will not taste bitter when over-steeped. Yunnan tea is arguably the most underrated of Chinese varieties. If you have yet to try it, we would recommend it highly. Our 'Yunnan Jig' would make a great introduction.

Story

Yunnan is the name of the Southern Chinese province bordering Vietnam. It had been a tea-producing region for close to two thousand years. Here grows China's oldest wild tea tree - about seventeen hundred years old. Yunnan's most senior cultivated tree is a relative youngster - a mere eight hundred years old. Yunnan also has the distinction of producing more black tea than any other part of China, although it's a relative newcomer to this variety. Black tea was first produced here in 1939, and is distinguished by its unique peppery taste.

"I got this originally as part of the black sampler pack. Being a relative new-comer to the world of tea, I never would have ordered this on my own. From the first sip it became my absolute favorite daily tea! It's excellent! I'm afraid I do not yet have the tea vocabulary necessary to adequately describe the flavor."

"Mossy flavor and weak brew - I'm not really sure why anyone would want to drink this. "

"Just couldn't compare to Yunnan Gold for me! It had a slightly sweet scent but didn't really have the spicy/peppery quality I like in Yunnan Gold. It was, however, full bodied and smooth and a good price."

"I guess I'm the lone dissenter here, but in my humble opinion, this tea was only "average". It actually seemed a bit 'stale'. I have had other Yunnan teas to compare. However, this is only one of two teas which I haven't rated as excellent. "

"All of the yunnans are good, but I think this is my all time favorite!"

"Unremarkable - as promise, it was forgiving and not bitter, but that's about all I can say."
