It is basically a strainer that holds the hot tea until you push the base down to drain it into your cup. Mine leaks, therefore, I cannot brew my tea in it. I brew the hot tea in the cup then pour it into this over the sink, rinse the tea leaves out of my cup out while holding it, then use the ingenuitea to strain the tea into my cup.
