Sencha Premier Customer Reviews

Classic steamed green tea from Shizuoka, Japan. Crisp and clean cup, notes of freshly steamed edamame. Refreshing, sweet, and much more delicate than most Senchas. If you're new to Sencha (and the vibrant teas of Japan in general), this would be a great place to start.

Meh! As a Sencha fan, I've sampled many brands, and, must comment on this one: it's in there with grocery shelf 'Senchas'...won't be back for this one...alas...probably the only Adagio tea that I'd rate with 2 stars...

★★★★★

This is the only green tea my mom will drink. She loves it!

★★★★★

Better than I was expecting. I enjoy a wide variety of green teas and this one is now one of my favorites.

★★★★★

I tried Sencha from another tea shop that tasted flat. I tried Adagio's Sencha Premier to compare and found it full-flavored. If you've been let down by another brand of sencha, give Adagio's Sencha Premier a try!

★★★★☆

Your average sencha tasting tea very mild flavor. Great for a green tea beginner

Very light sencha (at least to me). I've been enjoying it with a green-tea loving friend.

I’m spoiled because I’m used to drinking Gyokuro, but it’s expensive so I was looking for a replacement. It’s not bad and it has a similar flavor but it’s just a bit too astringent for me @adagioteas

This is a nice grassy green tea with beautiful color. I prefer a shorter brew time. @adagioteas

Delightful sencha tea with subtle grass notes. Not overpowering, light almost broth-like. @adagioteas

This is delicious. Grassy, delicate, buttery, melts-in-your-mouth feel. The first time I brewed this I accidentally infused it for 5 minutes, and it wasn't bitter at all. This tea is a special treat and I will be getting more of it!

I like green tea. This is a good green tea. Don't get me wrong, the sencha my parents got me from Japan is better quality, but the batch I got from Adagio is still decent quality. This tea made a very earthly and vegetal tasting cup and I can't wait to finish my bag so I can get more.

Ok ...I confess I was a Matcha addict until someone explained about equal benefits about drinking the best Sencha...easier to prepare...great taste... sort of creamy grassy taste

Very light flavor but enjoyable. Probably won't buy again as I have others I prefer.

A bit tastier than Sencha Overture, but still very much a Japanese green tea, vegetal with more umami flavor than I like.

Fantastic tea. If you like a strong, grassy green tea, this is for you. But like all grassy green tea, you HAVE to respect this. Steep too long or too hot, and you'll end up with an undrinkable cup of sadness.

Used 5g of tea and 220g of water, with a 2 minute initial steep at 160°F (~70°C)

Fantastic, grassy green. Excellent on a spring morning. Earthy, toasty, lovely.

very nice green tea, definitely enjoyed this both hot and cold

★★★★☆

Really nice quality sencha. It was a bit on the mild side for me, so I used more tea leaves. The only reason I didn’t give five stars is that it’s pretty pricey for four ounces.

This is definitely my favorite green tea that I have tried so far. From the first time I opened the bag, the tea smells so rich and flavorful that I have a hard time choosing another to make instead. Will definitely be reordering more! The leaves can also be re-steeped a second time for a much lighter tasting cup.

My favorite tea. Vegetal aroma and taste is very soothing. The temperature is very important.

Great for daily green tea drinkers! Tastes like how sencha should, vegetal and bold.

I used to drink Gyokuro but it's so pricey I was looking for something to substitute and this tea really delivers. It's bright and smooth and really a good option when you're being more budget conscious.

Solid green tea. Has that good pungent salty flavor without being bitter

Grass. This reminded me of drinking a salad. I definitely see how people would like this, but I'm not one of them.

Very savory and vegetal tasting tea. The taste was ok but scent was off putting to me while drinking.

This is not the worst green tea I have had! But I am not a huge green tea fan.
This is very tricky tea to brew. It needs a low temp and low time.
If done correctly you will have a mild green tea. If steeped too long or
Too hot it will be very vegetal.

I like sencha teas. I prefer overture over premier but I like them both. Vegetal, grassy, yet cozy.

A lovely green tea with a smooth, buttery taste. My CommuniTEA packet contained 3.5 grams of tea. I steeped in 12 oz of water at 165°F x 2 minutes for a pale green tea that had no grassiness and needed no sweetener. Resteeped twice for continued enjoyment.

The reason I like sencha is not for its complexity but for the brothiness and taste of the sea that's found more in sencha overture. I'm sure this is a fine example of sencha if you're looking for quality but this isn't really what I'm looking for (through no fault of the tea itself).

It's not the worst green tea I've had, but it's close. It's just like bitter spinach water to me. No good.

A smooth and buttery green tea! Does have a mild, sweet vegetal flavor, and it gives it a very pleasant flavor profile. I did 175F for 1 minute and the result is a very gentle and high quality tasting tea!

I love a good green tea, so I was sure I'd love this one! I noted plenty of umami-boosting crumbs in my cup after I lifted the infuser basket out, and sure enough, I had a lovely mug full of buttery, grassy greens water to enjoy over a video chat with my mother. What a wonderful start to my day! (2 mins @ 165 F, no additions)

Today's CommuniTea packet is sencha premier, a Japanese tea. I love sencha, both dinking it as a tea and using it as a spice. I particularly like it in eggs and omelettes, using it as you would fines herbes, which is what I did today. It gives the eggs a fresh, grassy aroma, and the bright green makes a delightful filling, contrasting to the pale yellow of the omelette. You can also stir it into the egg batter, but then it can dye the eggs a pale green while cooking, which not everyone will like.

I brewed this one up at a low temp, and let it steep an extra 30 seconds as at 2 minutes in there was almost no colour st all. Since I am not overly fond of greens, I was not excited to taste this tea, but I always try keep an open mind so...
I tasted soup! A nice enough green vegetable soup, my mother in law makes a nice spinach soup that tastes just like this! We eat it with a grated egg in it! I felt like grating an egg in my cup, but in the end decided that I prefer the soup and will not be getting any of this tea to drink...In my opinion, as a tea, this was only meh for me.

I do not like green teas in general because of the grassy/ spinach water taste. I did a 30 second rinse followed by a 1 min steep using 165 F water. All I can say is that it was tolerable but not enjoyable.

I ignored the brewing instructions on the packet and used the traditional Japanese method for sencha. I brewed 3g of leaves with 2oz of water at 175 degrees Fahrenheit for 1 minute. This yielded a beautiful, light greenish-golden liquor. It was delicate, sweet, and almost buttery with a very very subtle astringency. For subsequent steeps (I made it to 4) I didn't steep the leaves at all, just poured 2oz of water over the leaves then poured it into my teacup. The following steeps were stronger, slightly more astringent, with the steamed vegetal taste typical of green teas coming through more. Don't worry, it doesn't taste like drinking vegetable water though. It's a very light, refreshing tea. I'd love to try this cold brewed! I do have a warning, though. Don't let your leaves sit for more than an hour between steeps. I left mine and that steep was very strong and bitter.

I don't recommend eating anything before or with this tea, unless it's very light in flavoring. You'll lose the subtle flavors of the tea with anything else on your palate. If you're a fan of strong brews, I would say skip this one. It's very delicate. However, if you're into light teas I would highly recommend it. It's perfect for sipping while relaxing in quiet, gentle contemplation.

'notes of freshly steamed edamame' wasn't exactly pulling me in, neither was the grassy scent I got when I opened my CommuniTea packet. But I gave it a go anyway.
It wasn't as vegetal as I feared it would be. That could be because I decided to steep for a little less time then recommended. With a 90sec steep I got a only lightly-vegetal green tea, and with the addition of just a little sugar it worked for me.

Wonderful Sencha but, honestly, if you're going to pay for this one, you might as well go with one of the Masters versions to get something even nicer for close to the same price. Also, it should only be steeped for 1 minute max with 170 to 175 degree spring water. Tap water will kill the subtleties of the taste. And it's meant to be shared and steeped many times. 3-4 times at least. Making an afternoon of it is always a good thing.

For a green, this was pretty pleasant. I followed instructions of other reviewers and cut my brew time to 90 seconds and it kept the grassy flavor more to a minimum. I could taste the sweetness of the stevia I added more than bitterness of over done leaves. Overall I enjoyed getting a chance to sample this one.

This was not as bad as I thought it would be,judging it from the smell as soon as I opened the packet. After it cooled down I was able to finish the cup. Not a tea I would buy but I didn’t hate it.

I would recommend a 1 min brew at 165, I also rinsed first due to some people in the chat saying it was fishy. A very good green tea with some honey will try a second steep as a cold brew to drink in the am.

The tea smelled like spinach in the packet, smelled like spinach when I was brewing it, and tasted like spinach in the cup! I even tried eating one of the little leaves and mostly just found it chewy. Trying this tea reinforces my belief that I'm a green tea gal. (2 mins @ 180 F, no additions)

Normally I don't go for greens, they're too grassy and vegetal for me, but I always try CommuniTea packets anyway.

I was pleasantly surprised with this one, as the description states it's very light, a tea to sip alone (I had it with food, which I think was a mistake, I didn't get a lot of the more subtle flavors.) Not too grassy or green, just slightly sweet.

“Steamed edamame” is not exactly the flavor profile I’m looking for in my teas, but that’s what I got in today’s CommuniTEA. The inside of my packet looked, smelled, and presumably tasted, like what we pull out the the lawn mower bag every week. I’ve never actually tasted the grass clippings, but I imagine it’s what this tastes like. As it cooled down (because I really just could not drink this) it was slightly more tolerable, with some mild floral notes to it. If you like green tea, I’m sure this is delicious. I don’t, therefore this was not so delicious.

It is my first month of communiTea so I am trying each tea plain to start. Listened to my fellow members and went a little short on the steep time (1 1/2 min). This tea had a fabulous grassy brightness straight out of the packet. Brewed to a pale green and was lightly grassy to taste. It did become slightly bitter as it cooled.
