Meng Ding Mao Feng or Misty Peak Downy Tip offers curly, deep green tea leaves with strikingly bright, silvery leaf buds. Its dry aroma is that of hops and white grape, while the liquor is sweet, pear-like, crisp and lingering. The long small wiry leaves of this Meng Ding Mao Feng are very tightly rolled. When brewed they unfurl, allowing you to see the small buds and leaves. Delicate and delicious!
About the leaves:
Grown at an elevation between 600 and 1000 meters above sea level, our Men Ding Mao Feng was hand-plucked from 10-year-old trees in May. Known locally as "curl mao feng" it comes from the cultivar Fu Ding, a big white leaf species. Consisting of one bud and 1-2 leaves, the 3.5-5 cm long leaves are notable for their distinct curled shape.
Green Tea | Moderate caffeine | Steep at 170° for 2-3 mins
The Mao Feng style of green tea is known for its layer of white down or "Mao" along with the young buds. Unlike some other Chinese green teas, Meng Ding Mao Feng is not pan-fried, but rather undergoes steaming. Because of this unique processing, its profile is closer to Japanese green teas. Steaming gives the tea a crisper flavor profile, making it one of the most uniquely flavored Chinese green teas.
