To me personally the French Market is packed with smells, of fresh fruit, spicy foods, and a place to find bargains.
It's located right next to a levee wall and you can see the larger boats pass by on the River.
You can find a deal on just about anything in the French Market. Knockoff purses, incense, tea, coffee, jewerly, plants, perfume, clothes, books, bootleg music, DVDs, dishes or just about anything that comes to mind.
Occasionally, there are the sounds of live jazz but there is always music playing over speakers or sometimes concerts and festivals are held at the end of the street.
There is a golden statue of Joan of Arc right outside of the French Market, a gift from France back in the day. All this and food that range from muffaletta and po-boys to a Bloody Mary or Beignets with Cafe AU Lait.
