A Japanese research lab created a hybrid fruit in 1972, called Dekopon. The result was so popular that Japanese would pay $1 each for small,odd-shaped fruit. Called,'Sumo' in the U.S., the fruit is a cross between Tangerine, Orange and a Mandarin called, Ponkan.
