The strong black tea base and earthiness is in reference to Russell’s past as a Carpathian pagan druid and the oak groves that, according to Denis O’Hare, made him settle in what would someday become Mississippi. The blackberry, a bitter, wild berry that’s juicy without being traditionally sweet, ties those ideas together.
