Since 1991, the people of Bergen, Norway, have built an elaborate miniature city of gingerbread houses each year before Christmas. Named Pepperkakebyen (Norwegian for 'gingerbread city'), it claims to be the world's largest such city, complete with parks, merry-go-rounds, schools, ships - all made of gingerbread. Attendance is free for every child under the age of 12, who come to make their own house for the city with the help of their parents.
