Irish Breakfast

Description

Our new combination of black teas from Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and Assam (India). As its name implies, Irish Breakfast tea is an ideal accompaniment to a morning meal. It smoothly blends the high notes of a high-grown Ceylon with the malty underscore of a hearty Assam. May be enjoyed plain or with a drop of milk. One of our most popular teas. The perfect afternoon tea.

Story

James Joyce, a gourmand as well as a prolific writer, began Ulysses with not one, but two Irish Breakfasts. His protagonist, Leopold Bloom, recounted every meal consumed on what is now known as Bloomsday. The meal, also known as Fry, is typically served all day long, and consists primarily of porridge, bacon, sausage, smoked salmon, eggs and tea. The latter was required equally strong, as it was customary to dilute it with milk. The teas of Ceylon and Assam were judged equal to the task. However, the proportion of each varies greatly from blend to blend.

"Being relatively new to the loose gourmet tea world, I began with the black tea sampler and the Irish Breakfast was a definite standout for me. This is my morning/late morning drink of choice, and is slowly replacing my obligatory morning cup of coffee. It's a wonderful basic black to start with."

"One of the first teas I ordered. The tea is strong and rich but I think the tin I had was contaminated with other tea, there seemed to be an additional fruity smell and flavor. It was perfectly drinkable, I just wasn't expecting it. I will re-order later in the year, but I think it'll be a sample size to see if the fruity flavor was a fluke or the norm for this tea."

"Smells like malty goodness, perhaps not as much depth. But like most Irish Breakfasts, great with the addition of milk. Pretty good, would order again if I feel like Irish Breakfast."

"I drink most of my tea iced. But for a pot of hot tea in the morning, this is great. This is a great basic black tea. "

"Nice morning cuppa... definitely nothing spectacular, just a solid morning tea. All you've gotta decide is whether milk comes first or last ;)"

"Can't decide whether I like this one more, or Ceylon Sonata. I suppose there is nothing wrong with having both."
